About Sam

Who I Am As A Therapist

I’m not the kind of therapist who nods quietly during a therapy session and waits for you to figure it out on your own. I show up and I listen deeply. I hold space for the hard, messy, beautiful truth of your story and I do it without judgement, jargon, or pretending I have all the answers.

My work is trauma-focused, affirming, collaborative, and grounded in the belief that you are the expert in your own experience. I’m here to walk alongside you as you make sense of what’s happened, what it’s cost, and what you want to reclaim.

Whether you’re navigating religious trauma, untangling your identity, recovering from spiritual abuse, or trying to rebuild your relationship with your body or community and I’m in it with you.

Who I Am As A Human

Outside the therapy room? I’m a queer woman, a religious trauma survivor, a truth-teller, and a lover of slow mornings, good stories (hello Beyond the Surface), and strong coffee. I occasionally find myself indulging in too much TikTok, building LEGO and watching as many cult documentaries as I can. I’m an avid cricket fan, ADHD & HSP, Enneagram 4, musical theatre lover and yes, I have a guilty pleasure for cheesy reality shows.

I also know what it’s like to question everything. Being rejected and betrayed by those I called family. To walk away from the communities that shaped you. To rebuild an identity piece by piece. So when I say I get it, I don’t mean in a textbook way.

I’m not here to perform professionalism. I’m here to be real, to honour your humanity, and to show up with mine too.

The Values That Guide Me

Humour: Humour helps us survive. It’s not just allowed here, it’s welcome. I’ll never ask you to leave your wit, sarcasm, or dark jokes at the door.

Authenticity: You get to show up as the full version of you and I’ll meet you there, as the full version of me. I’m honest, transparent, and not afraid to say, “Yeah, that was messed up.”

Collaboration: You’re the expert on your story. I bring knowledge, insight, lived experience and a whole lot of curiosity, but we build this thing together. I won’t tell you who to be or how to heal.

Empathy: I’m not here to fix you because I don’t believe you are broken. Empathy means I will listen with compassion, attune to your experience, and hold space without rushing you to “move on.”

Justice: I don’t see your experiences in isolation. The harm is often shaped by power, systems, ideology, religion, and culture. I care deeply about justice, because healing isn’t just personal – it’s political too.

The Areas I’m Passionate About

I’m especially passionate about supporting people who are:

  • Unpacking religious trauma, and spiritual abuse
  • Deconstructing faith or harmful belief systems
  • Leaving high-demand religions, cults, or controlling spiritual spaces
  • Trying to feel safe in relationships and communities again
  • Navigating queerness and identity in the aftermath of rejection or suppression
  • Healing from purity culture, conversion practices, or coercive control
  • Reconnecting with their bodies, boundaries, and agency

How I Work

Don’t know what these mean or look like? That’s okay everything is always explained in the room. Incase you are looking for something specific, these are the areas I draw from.

  • Polyvagal and Nervous System-Informed Approaches
  • Resource Therapy (Parts Work)
  • Brainspotting
  • Attachment Theory
  • Inner Child Work
  • Psychoeducation
  • Gottman Method (For relationship therapy)

But let’s be real, therapy is never one-size-fits-all. You’re not a case study or a worksheet. You’re a whole person, and we’ll figure out what works for you together.

The Official Stuff

I’m a registered therapist with The Australian Counselling Association and Recognised Clinical Supervisor.

My main qualifications include:

  • Diploma of Counselling
  • Advanced Diploma of Counselling and Family Therapy
  • Graduate Diploma of Counselling and Integrated Psychotherapy
  • Certificate of Attainment in Professional Supervision

I actively pursue ongoing professional development, because this work keeps evolving and so do I. I also regularly seek out training, reading, supervision, and conversations that deepen my knowledge and sharpen my skills, especially in the areas I care most about. Specifically trauma, identity, faith, power, systems, and the body.

While I won’t list every single training I’ve done (it’s a long and nerdy list), I’m always happy to chat about my ongoing learning if you’re curious or want to make sure we’re a good fit.

I take my professional responsibilities seriously but I also know that pieces of paper don’t automatically make someone safe. Relationships, respect, and shared humanity create safety and we build it over time. That’s what I aim to offer, every single session.
