Religious Trauma Is Real & Valid
Cults Exist Beyond Fringe Groups
It's Time We Start Talking About Them!
What We Talk About...
- What it’s actually like to leave a church, religion, or cult when it once shaped your whole world
- The harm that can happen when belief systems are controlling, shaming, or demand obedience and how that sticks around long after you leave
- The confusion, grief, anger, relief (sometimes all at once) that comes with deconstructing faith or walking away
- Conversations with people who’ve left cults or high-control religious spaces and are figuring out who they are now
- Queerness, sexuality, desire, and learning how to belong to yourself after religion
I created Beyond the Surface because leaving religion or a cult doesn’t just change what you believe; it rewires your nervous system, your relationships, and your sense of self. This podcast is my way of naming the harm honestly, holding the grief and anger without softening it, and walking alongside the long, uneven work of recovery.
