Individual Therapy

What Is Therapy?

Therapy is your space to pause, untangle, and start rebuilding after experiences that have shaken your sense of self to the core. Whether you’re struggling with the fallout from religious trauma, leaving a high-control group, or the identity questions that come with faith deconstruction, this is a judgement-free zone. Your story matters here, exactly as it is.

Everyone deserves a safe place to work through grief, anger, confusion, or shame. For those of us who’ve been through spiritual abuse, coercive control, or have experienced the added layer of being queer in environments that told us we were “wrong,” this space becomes even more vital. It’s about reclaiming your sense of worth beyond doctrines that tried to erase you.

What Does Therapy Look Like?

Expect a pace that honours where you’re at. This isn’t about rushing healing or “getting over it.” We’ll use trauma-focused methods that help soothe your nervous system, support your emotional processing, and help you reconnect with yourself, your real self, the one underneath all the layers of rules, shame, and control.

Sessions are flexible, a place where you can vent, cry, rage and laugh. Sometimes it’s talking through your experiences and feelings, other times it might be grounding exercises or creative reflection. You’ll have space to name the complex emotions that come with religious trauma. The grief for lost community, or the anger at spiritual betrayal. The relief and terror of freedom, and the messy identity reconstruction that follows.

Who Is This For?

This work is for anyone who’s:

  • Questioning or leaving a faith system that’s caused harm, or trying to make sense of faith loss.

  • Navigating the painful intersections of queerness and religious rejection or internalised shame.

  • Healing from spiritual abuse, manipulation, or controlling relationships within faith settings.

  • Feeling isolated after family or community fallout tied to their beliefs or identity.

  • Searching for who they are without religion as their foundation, and what that means for their future.

  • Sick of people telling them to “just pray more” or “have more faith” when what they really need is compassionate support.

The Details

Consistency is key. I see clients at the same day and time each week or every fortnight, depending on what works best for you. Having a regular spot helps build a steady rhythm, which is crucial when you’re healing from trauma, or rebuilding your sense of self and relationships. Your nervous system thrives on this kind of routine, and it creates a safe container for the work we do together.
